About Rachel

Rachel grew up and attended school in Manchester but has since lived and worked across the UK and in Australia.

She has been a journalist for 20 years and has an MA in Creative Writing from Manchester Metropolitan University and a BA in Journalism from the University of Central Lancashire.

She also holds the NCE, the qualification from the National Council for the Training of Journalists designed to examine all-round competence in a range of fundamental journalistic skills.

Education:

As well as providing journalism workshops in schools and colleges, Rachel is a part-time lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, teaching undergraduates Writing Skills, Learning and Employability and Study Skills for English, and teaching Writing Exercises to MA students.

She also worked with the Writing School on the Manchester Poetry Prize 2008 and the Manchester Fiction Prize 2009 and has been a Creative Agent with Creative Partnerships.

She is an editor and judge on the All Write! competition 2008, showcasing the best writing by 14-16 and 16- 18 year olds across the North West and beyond and judged the 2010 Portico Young Writers Prize.

Memberships and volunteer roles:

Rachel is a member of the National Association of Writers in Education, the National Union of Journalists and the Association for Creative Writing and English.

Rachel is also a volunteer with Refugee/Asylum Participatory Action Research (RAPAR) a unique human rights organisation.
